SAAS: What’s next?

SAAS means “Software As A Service.”

It means outsourcing your Information Technology infrastructure.

Two obvious (to me) new directions for SAAS are:

  1. Open, unified CSS and theming. It would be very cool to have a main web site running, say, Drupal, with (say) WordPress at blog.mywebsite.com, PBWiki at wiki.mywebsite.com, and BaseCamp running at project.mywebsite.com. I predict that the first SAAS providers that can do this with a single, easily installable theme will find some very profitable synergy.
  2. Off line useability using Google gears, dojo storage or similar as-yet-to-be-invented technology.

Just a simple matter of programming, to be sure.
