How many people do you know that say they “want to be a writer?”
How many people do you know say this, yet have taken no action at all?
How many have created at least a storyboard or an outline?
And followed through to completion?
And actually got published?
These numbers decrease radically as you move down the list.
I know a bunch of people at the top of this list. Almost none in the bottom half. And no one personally who has published a major work with a large publisher.
Why is that?
Why is it that so many people profess a desire to write or create, yet never take action to realize this desire?
I propose the people that take action have some sort of “genetic defect” similar to that driving people to start their own businesses: Entrepreneurs simply cannot imagine not being self-employed; writers cannot imagine not writing.
Once you take the plunge and fully commit to writing, you will lose touch with non-writers. In fact, just as entrepreneurs, musicians and artists know so well, you eventually lose touch with everyone NOT taking active steps to create.
You become something the majority of people cannot relate to. Sure, they can relate to the pain of writing, everyone can. Writing is hard work. But they cannot relate to the pain of NOT writing.
Are you ready for it?
It’s worth it. Most of the time.

I get it. I know, I know.
I’m behind on writing.
I’ll get to it.
