Automation

The most curious thing (to me) about “computing” is the essential power of computers to automate and simplify tasks full of drudgery is largely squandered. Instead, modern desktop applications introduce an amazing amount of largely unnecessary manual complexity: mouse here, click that, mouse there, click this, etc. It’s not that I mind so much the “dumbing down,” I appreciate that myself sometimes. What’s most annoying is how many applications, possibly by design (for “simplification”), prevent me from “smarting up.”
