The double-edged sword

(Reading time: 1 – 2 minutes)

I have to book a flight.

Back in the Bad Old Days, before online booking, this was really easy: call a travel agent who either picked up the phone, or would return your call. Explain what you want. Pay. Tickets either mailed or pick ‘em on a standard errands run. Very simple, not much thinking required.

Now, I can easily book a flight myself… except that I don’t fly very much, and learning the web interface taps exactly the part of my brain I use to make money. This is a problem for two reasons. The first reason is that given 24 hours in a day, I have found I get approximately 4 hours average per day of “problem solving.” Any more than that, I pay later. The second is that figuring out how to acquire a ticket takes time that I could be using my problem solving ability to make money.

If I flew regularly, this wouldn’t be an issue. Might be cheaper to outsource booking flights. Full circle.

I do need a Svetlana! Maybe a couple of ‘em! I’m a busy man after all.
